Lighting Up Your Home

Tips from a Pacific Northwest Realtor

Living in Seattle, I know firsthand how important it is to maximize natural light in your home. Since we don't get much sun, having large windows is crucial for creating a bright and welcoming space. While I understand that windows can be expensive, investing in bigger windows will pay off in the long run.

In addition to larger windows, it would be a great benefit for builders to consider offering a package of window blinds as an incentive to buyers. Blinds are often one of the most costly purchases for new homeowners, and having them already installed can save buyers both money and time.

However, one of the most crucial design considerations for townhome builders is ensuring privacy for their buyers. Unfortunately, not all builders take this into account when designing their layouts. I recently experienced this firsthand when I saw one of my clients, moved into a townhome community where every unit's windows directly faced another townhome, leaving no room for privacy. As a result, homeowners are forced to keep their blinds up at all times, which can be frustrating and limiting.

Therefore, when building townhomes or other multi-unit dwellings, it's essential to think through these design decisions early on. By planning for privacy and incorporating large windows and blinds packages, builders can create homes that are not only functional but also highly desirable for buyers. And who knows? A little extra thoughtfulness in the design process might even result in a higher sale price for the builders.
