Seattle Townhouses:

Why Skinny Layouts Are Driving Homebuyers Crazy

As a realtor in Seattle, I have seen a growing trend of townhomes being built with narrow and skinny layouts that are causing frustration among buyers. While it's understandable that builders want to maximize their profits by building as much as possible on a lot, it's important to consider the livability of the space.

These townhomes are usually three stories high, built vertically, and lack the necessary space for full-sized furniture. Buyers are often forced to downsize their furniture or resort to minimalism to make the space work, which is not an attractive option for many.

In my experience, buyers are more attracted to townhomes that have wider layouts, resembling actual room sizes. This is especially important in Seattle, where space can be at a premium. Buyers want to be able to walk through their living spaces without feeling like they're in a narrow hallway.

I believe builders need to put more thought into the actual usage of the space and consider what buyers will like. A well-designed layout can lead to increased buyer satisfaction, which can ultimately result in higher purchase prices and a better reputation for the builder.
